What is a Scalping Screen?
Scalping Screens are used for primary screening of large, bulky materials. They are efficient at removing oversize material in preparation for downstream processing. Scalping Screens are typically used for aggregates, mining, topsoil, compost, mulch and C&D recycling.
When to use a Scalping Screen
The best applications to use a Scalping Screen are when needing to process high volumes of materials, particularly abrasive feeds. They excel at removing fines and sticky material from oversize, often working in conjunction with feed conveyors, crushers and loader systems. However, Scalping Screens have a larger footprint in comparison to a shaker bucket and tend to have a higher capital cost.

What is a Shaker Bucket?
A Shaker Bucket is an attachment that is fitted to an excavator or loader that contains a rotary drum that screens material once it has been collected from a stockpile. They are typically used in landscaping applications as well as small-scale topsoil screening and for recycling materials on site.
When to use a Shaker Bucket
The Shaker Bucket is a mobile, compact attachment that is cost effective for small-scale screening requirements. They are ideal for low volume screening, making them perfect for contractors or batch jobs. Shaker Buckets are not suitable for high-volume applications and have a limited capacity to screen material effectively. With a slower production output, a Shaker Bucket also has a high wear rate requiring more maintenance from direct contact with materials.
The main benefits of the Scalping Screen over the Shaking bucket are:
- Higher Production
- Lower Disposal Costs
- Improved Recovery of Material
