About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fitter to join our heavy manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical equipment, ensuring plant machinery operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position offers a strong opportunity for skilled candidates to further develop their expertise within a demanding industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, align, and commission mechanical components and heavy machinery in accordance with technical drawings and specifications
  • Carry out routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and shutdown maintenance on plant equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical faults, perform breakdown repairs, and minimise downtime
  • Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve mechanical issues
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with site safety procedures, risk assessments, and permit systems
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area at all times
  • Complete maintenance records, job reports, and fault documentation accurately and promptly

Communication & Teamwork

  • Keep clear communication with colleagues and supervisors
  • Report any issues promptly to the Fabrication Manager

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience as a Fitter within a heavy manufacturing, industrial, or plant environment
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, and conveyors
  • High level of competency using hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet production deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required
